Adam Blakester from Starfish Initiatives asked New England Avionics if we were able to do a aerial survey of the proposed site for Earth Funerals project and The Armidale Tree Group other two locations in the Armidale area.

About the Project.

Starfish Initiatives, Armidale Tree Group and Earthfunerals are working together to establish the New England Natural Burial Ground – the first stand-alone, natural burial ground in Australia.

The proposed facility will have great social and environmental significance, and give High Country residents the option of a genuine natural burial – a simple return to the earth that is meaningful and sustainable.

Aerial Project Overview

Over three separate days we visited all three sites and perform aerial video and still shot photos, so they could gather data to see if the site was sustainable for the proposed project just located 5Km’s outside of Armidale.

At the other two Armidale Tree Group locations we performed aerial video surveys of the newly planted tree as a part of the Natural Resources Management (NRM) of the New England Tablelands area and we we are about to start a new project to expand these areas that we will be surveying. This will include 2D mapping and using tree canopy algorithms like the ones listed below to monitor plant growth over time.
